When Donald Trump assumed the office of president in 2017, his attempt to do the job for which he was elected met with vicious opposition from every quarter. Although we had a Republican president and a Republican Congress, the government that Trump inherited from his predecessor seemed to be out of control. Who, then, was actually running the country?
Provable crimes by Hillary Clinton and other Democratic members of the Obama administration were brushed off by the Justice Department. Instead, the Mueller investigation—which seems to have a life of its own—moved to invalidate the results of the presidential election. Acting Attorney General Sally Yates refused to enforce Trump’s immigration ban. The ruling of one rogue federal district judge was sufficient to stop the executive branch from functioning for a year and a half. Congressional committees were told to pound sand when they demanded accountability from the bureaucracy in the FBI and Justice Department.
And so I ask this question once again: Who runs the country? Is it run by the president? Is it run by the unelected bureaucrats of the Deep State? Is it run by Nancy Pelosi? The answer can be found by looking at the three main supports upon which our government rests: the rule of law, separation of powers, and checks and balances. When all of these pillars are respected, there is no question about who is running the country. The government runs itself as it was designed to do, through relatively smooth coordination of its constituent elements.
Thanks to one man and his disciples, the smooth coordination came to a halt in 2009. That man, Barack Hussein Obama, was the first sitting president to attempt the disembowelment of the United States. He was telling the truth when he said he wanted to “fundamentally transform America.” Obama hates America. His objective as president was to undermine the very Constitution he swore to defend. In order to subvert the legislative and judicial branches, he issued a legion of illegal executive orders and appointed thousands of bureaucrats and federal judges who would support his anti-American policies. As we are discovering, civil servants appointed by Obama make their own rules. Obama’s activist judges behave as lawmakers rather than law interpreters.
Donald Trump is attempting to move the train back onto the tracks. By replacing Obama bureaucrats and appointing constitutionalists—not judicial activists—to the Supreme Court, he is ensuring that the system runs as it was intended. The Democrats complain that Trump wants to pack the court with conservatives. Their argument misses the point entirely. The Supreme Court was not created to make laws. That is the job of Congress. A court of judicial activists, whether conservative or liberal, will undermine the republic. The only way to save the court and the country is with the appointment of jurists who are faithful to the Constitution, which, by the way, is worth defending. We should be grateful that Trump understands this.
Unfortunately, the new Democratic Party thinks the Constitution is a dirty word. Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Tom Perez, Bernie Sanders, Maxine Waters, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez want borders open to all comers, disregard for the rule of law when it suits their agenda, restrictions on free speech, free healthcare for all, and the elimination of free markets. By pushing distorted versions of diversity, social justice, and political correctness, the Democrats want increased governmental control over every facet of our lives.
The platform for this makeover is socialism, where the government takes care of everything. “Every single one of [Obama’s] initiatives,” says American Thinker, was “directed at increasing government control in every area, with a corresponding decrease in individual liberty.” In each and every case—Soviet Russia, Maoist China, Cuba, Venezuela—socialism has been accompanied by totalitarianism, a dictatorial system demanding complete subservience to the state.
When will the “progressive” voices of the Democratic Party be moderated by the voice of reason? At the moment, it doesn’t look promising. Democrats come across as foul-mouthed and violent. Maxine Waters urges Democrats to follow Republicans into restaurants in order to harass them. Antifa protestors are brown shirts in all but name. Republican congressmen (e.g., Steve Scalise) are valid target practice for disgruntled Democrats with live ammunition. As the party of victimization, the Democrats vilify white Americans by accusing them of oppressing everybody else.
The time has come for a complete reformation of the Democratic Party. If they continue in this direction, Democrats will lose elections in all but the most left-wing electoral districts. The Democratic Party will become irrelevant. This is not healthy for a country that depends on a multi-party system.
