Democrats Outraged at Trump for Speaking Truth to Germany

Why are Democrats outraged at the President for opposing Russian influence in Europe?

Obama Secretary of State John Kerry says the President’s behavior is “strange.” I’m sure that for Kerry, straightforward speaking of the truth is strange! Pelosi and Schumer claim his forthright discussion of the issues is “an embarrassment.”

A neocon expressed similar sentiments. I seem to remember being embarrassed by a previous President.

Democrats outraged at Donald Trump seem to care more about whether Angela Merkel likes them than they do about saddling taxpayers with the defense of other nations.

The Washington Post reports, “Former secretary of state Kerry says Trump is ‘destroying our reputation in the world.’

John F. Kerry on Wednesday accused President Trump of “strange” and “counterproductive” behavior at the outset of a NATO gathering and said Trump is “steadily destroying our reputation in the world.”

The unusually harsh assessment from the country’s former top diplomat came after Trump said at a breakfast meeting in Brussels that he considers Germany to be “captive to Russia” because it is getting much of its energy from the nation, and continued his attacks on other allies for their levels of defense spending.

“I’ve never seen a President say anything as strange or counterproductive as President Trump’s harangue against NATO and Germany,” Kerry said in a statement distributed over Twitter. “It was disgraceful, destructive and flies in the face of the actual interests of the United States of America.”

John Kerry was not the only voice of opposition. The Washington Post also reports, “‘An embarrassment’: Schumer, Pelosi respond to Trump’s behavior at the outset of NATO gathering.

The top two Democrats in Congress […] issued a sharp rebuke of President Trump […].

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer […] and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi […] issued a joint statement in response to comments […] in which he said he considered Germany to be “captive to Russia” because it is getting much of its energy from the nation.

“President Trump’s brazen insults and denigration of one of America’s most steadfast allies, Germany, is an embarrassment,” Schumer and Pelosi said […].

“His behavior this morning is another profoundly disturbing signal that the President is more loyal to President Putin than to our NATO allies.”

If Germany feels so threatened by Russia, then why are they relying on Russia for most of their energy needs? Is Trump an “embarrassment” for asking about that? Or do Kerry, Pelosi, and Schumer feel embarrassed for Germany?

Are Americans going to be motivated to get another President into office who promises never to speak honestly about the issues?
