Hollywood Icon: Trump Possibly Among ‘The Greatest Presidents In History’

Whoa.

Just. Whoa.

When I first noticed that one of Hollywood’s most creative and successful Directors had recently uttered the obvious truth that President Trump could go down among the best Presidents our nation has ever seen, I have to admit, I thought it was a hoax.

But it looks like powerhouse Director and Producer David Lynch was both accurately quoted and completely serious about Trump’s possible greatness.

The man who brought the world; Eraserhead, the Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive and other films has a new shock for Hollywood…

He thinks President Trump could go down as one of the “greatest presidents in history.” These are big words, but Lynch is serious, and he recently explained his thinking on the subject.

Lynch told the UK’s The Guardian in a recent interview that he (Trump) “has disrupted the thing so much. No one is able to counter this guy in an intelligent way.”

From The Guardian:

Politically, meanwhile, Lynch is all over the map. He voted for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary and thinks – he’s not sure – he voted Libertarian in the presidential election. “I am not really a political person, but I really like the freedom to do what you want to do,” says the persecuted Californian smoker.

He is undecided about Donald Trump. “He could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history because he has disrupted the thing so much. No one is able to counter this guy in an intelligent way.” While Trump may not be doing a good job himself, Lynch thinks, he is opening up a space where other outsiders might. “Our so-called leaders can’t take the country forward, can’t get anything done. Like children, they are. Trump has shown all this.”

This is a common theme among some of the President’s most die-hard supporters, isn’t it?

He’s disruptive. He’s a disinfectant. He’s sunlight, shining a light on the chaos that is the Swamp in Washington, D.C.

However, I think that Lynch sells the Trump administration short by allowing that the President may not be doing a “good job himself.” This, in turn, is a common argument among those who begrudgingly admit that the President has accomplished much during his time in office, but they don’t like “how” he has done it. Some former “NeverTrump” Republicans argue that the President’s administration has many accomplishments but that the President deserves little-to-no-credit because it’s his team that is leading the way.

This strikes me as incredibly childish, and really, an unimportant distinction to make.

Every administration is chosen, built, and led by the President. The accomplishments of his team are HIS accomplishments, and the Trump administration has many accomplishments to be proud of.

Let’s give credit where it’s due – and Donald J. Trump most assuredly deserves the credit.
