In addition to discussing a failed DOJ frame job, Nunes also explains the “absolute red line” the deep state might have crossed.
This is an amazing interview. Early on, Devin Nunes points out that the DOJ wanted to meet with him and others on Friday night. They refused. Then, the “mother of all leaks” occurred that night and suddenly the New York Times and the Washington Post are framing a story about human spying on the Trump Campaign as if it was no big deal. If Nunes had held that meeting the DOJ frame job would have been a success: he is convinced they would have blamed him for leaking the information to the media.
Real Clear Politics reports, “Devin Nunes: No More Meetings With ‘Leaky’ DOJ Until They ‘Show Us The Documents’”
“We’re not going to go to another meeting where we don’t get documents, and then the meeting leaks out,” Nunes said during an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo.
“I can tell you that nobody was ever interested in an informant,” Nunes also said. “We asked for specific documents that we still have not received from the Department of Justice. So they continue to leak out things about this informant and we don’t know if there is one informant of more informants because there’s so much out there now.”
“We have a right to get the information,” he said. “If […] there’s nothing to see here, show us the documents we’re asking for.”
And then Fox Business reports, “FBI informant news ‘mother of all leaks,’ House Intel Committee Chair Nunes says.”
Nunes, R-Calif., didn’t specifically list newspapers, but was likely referring to a story published Friday by the New York Times, which said the FBI sent an informant to meet with Trump campaign advisers George Papadopoulos and Carter Page after the agency received evidence that the two had ties to Russia.[…]
Both Nunes and Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., who also sits on the Intelligence Committee, were invited by the Justice Department to meet on Friday morning, though neither attended.
“We said, look, unless we’re gonna get documents – we found out Thursday night they’re not going to provide documents – so therefore we’re not going to go. Now, if you look what happened on Friday night – probably the mother of all leaks of all time to two major newspapers that came out late Friday night. Had Mr. Gowdy and I went to that meeting, you can bet they would have tried to pin that on us.”
