Hamas Terrorists to Blame for Violence in Gaza, Not Israel

If you’ve been watching the news for the last couple of days, you’ll no doubt have noticed the mass condemnation of Israel over the deaths of more than 50 Palestinian “protesters” in Gaza since the Monday opening of the new Embassy in Jerusalem.

If you pay attention to social media, you’ll get to read/hear hundred (maybe even thousands) of leftwing Democrats moaning and complaining about the brutish methods employed by Israel against these “peaceful” protesters.

Sadly, these ignorant commentaries are at best misleading and at worst outright lies. Israel has no reason to be ashamed of their handling of the “protests” at the Israeli border and the anti-Israel left is fooling no one with their condemnations.

The reality is that these were not protests, they were riots. These riots were not sparked by the opening of the embassy, but they were “astroturfed,” meticulously planned by the Palestinian leadership in Hamas (a terrorist organization). Watch any video of the events and you’ll notice a few things that prove Israel innocent of being too heavy-handed. First, the dark smoke of tire fires up and down the border fence line. These fires were mean to make it more difficult for the Israeli soldiers to see who is a dangerous (and armed) rioter and who is an unarmed civilian. Secondly, throngs of Palestinian “protesters” routinely attacking and attempting to tear down the border fence between Palestinian territory and Israel. The same mob attacks, where hundreds of people grouped tightly together attacked the fence, happened at more than a dozen locations up and down the border. This was a coordinated assault on Israel’s border, can you imagine if thousands of Mexican citizens did the same thing along our Southern border wall? America would be shocked, angered, and we would expect our border security to do something about it. Finally, while many of the “protesters” were unarmed, there were dozens (perhaps hundreds) of Hamas terrorists mixed in with the crowd and they WERE armed. They were armed with rocks, sticks, molotov cocktails, IED’s (Improvised Explosive Devices), knives, guns, and rifles. However, mixed in with thousands of unarmed protesters it can be quite easy to hide those weapons until they are used, and when they are used it is just as easy for the criminal (terrorists) to melt back into their crowd of human shields.

One side note here – Much has been made about the child that died, and that is tragic, but what was a child doing at a riot? This is not in the middle of some downtown Palestinian neighborhood… this is out on the border in the middle of nowhere. What kind of parent takes their child to an event where violence is likely, and chaos is even likelier?

The kind of parent that trains their child to hate Jews, and believe that Israel should be wiped off the map. And guess where they teach these things? Palestinian schools.

See for yourself:

and:

The reality is that while it may be Hamas inciting the violence and pushing for Israel to “overreact” so that they will be condemned by the world, the average Palestinian citizen is allowing Hamas to get away with their crimes. Thousands of Palestinians showed up at these riots. Thousands of Palestinians helped Hamas to create chaos along the border making a violent confrontation more likely.

And why? Because the United States moved our embassy from Tel Aviv, to Jerusalem? Utterly ridiculous.

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was forced to go on international TV on Tuesday to explain the reality of what was happening along the Israeli-Gaza border.

Speaking about Hamas’ role in the rioting and violence, Netanyahu said:

Netanyahu: They’re pushing civilians, women, children, into the line of fire with the view of getting casualties. We try to minimize casualties. They’re trying to incur casualties in order to put pressure on Israel, which is horrible.

Jeff Glor: You said they want kids to die.

Netanyahu: Yeah.

Jeff Glor: Putting kids in the line of fire.

Netanyahu: Yes.

Jeff Glor: Did your army go too far?

Netanyahu: I don’t know of any army that would do anything differently if you had to protect your border against people who say they are going to destroy you and flood into your country.

You try other means, you try all sorts of means. You try non-lethal means, and they don’t work, so you’re left with bad choices. It is a bad deal. You go for below the knee, and sometimes it doesn’t work, and unfortunately, these things are avoidable, if Hamas had not pushed them there then nothing would happen, Hamas holds responsibility for doing this.

And they’re deliberately doing it.

The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, corroborated Netanyahu’s account before the United Nations on Tuesday. She openly wondered what any other country in the UN would do if belligerent mobs of thousands attacked their borders?

“Who among us would accept this type of activity on your border? No one would. No country in this chamber would act with more restraint than Israel has. In fact, the records of several countries here today suggest they would be much less restrained,” Haley chided.

She’s exactly right, and so is Netanyahu.

I hate that I have to continually remind Americans that Israel is the only legitimate democracy in the Middle East. Israel is the only nation where the Western attitude on the rule of law exists. Israel is the only nation in the region where Muslims, Jews, and Christians coexist peacefully and where each group has the RIGHT and FREEDOM to worship as they see fit. Israel is the only nation in the region that respects Human Rights, and the only place where minority groups (whether ethnic, religious, or even sexual preference minorities) can live without fear of government oppression or repression.

The ultimate reality is, as Netanyahu once said,

“If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more ‎violence. If the Jews put ‎down their weapons ‎today, there would be no ‎more Israel.’‎”
