Comey Memos Show Concern about Trump, but Not about Deep State

Now that the Comey memos have been released, the media is trying to tell us all the salacious and titillating details. That format can be a strategy for distraction.

The Comey memos were designed to defend the FBI against Donald Trump, but Comey had no similar concern for Bill Clinton’s meeting with Lorretta Lynch.

Now that the Comey memos have been released, the media is trying to tell us all the salacious and titillating details. That format can be a strategy for distraction. Whether it is true or false that Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that Russia had the “most beautiful hookers in the world,” it makes a good headline but is irrelevant to any criminal investigation or national security matter.

Happily, Devin Nunes (R-Ca.; Chairman, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence), Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.; Chairman, House Judiciary Committee), and Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.; Chairman, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee) released a statement pointing out the RELEVANT information contained in the Comey memos. The Conservative Treehouse posted the text. While it is all good commentary, these two paragraphs stood out as especially important:

The memos also make certain […]: former Director Comey has at least two different standards in his interactions with others. He chose not to memorialize conversations with President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, Secretary Clinton, Andrew McCabe or others, but he immediately began to memorialize conversations with President Trump. It is significant former Director Comey made no effort to memorialize conversations with former Attorney General Lynch despite concerns apparently significant enough to warrant his unprecedented appropriation of the charging decision away from her and the Department of Justice in July of 2016.

These memos also lay bare the notion that former Director Comey is not motivated by animus. He was willing to work for someone he deemed morally unsuited for office, capable of lying, requiring of personal loyalty, worthy of impeachment, and sharing the traits of a mob boss. Former Director Comey was willing to overlook all of the aforementioned characteristics in order to keep his job. In his eyes, the real crime was his own firing.

Comey has never shown an interest in finding out what Lorretta Lynch and Bill Clinton talked about in their secret meeting. But he was interested in making sure you knew everything that transpired between him and Donald Trump!
