When news stories say that Nikki Haley defies something that Larry Kudlow said… we need more facts!

So Nikki Haley defies those who claim she was confused, namely Donald Trump’s new economic advisor, Larry Kudlow.

But what does that mean?

Her statement that she wasn’t confused simply means that she knew what she was doing. But it doesn’t clarify what that was.

Was she supposed to go on TV and announce the imminent rollout of economic sanctions on Russia? Or did she push the plan on TV to pressure the White House to take action?

Alternatively, did someone at the White House encourage Haley to make her announcement and then change plans? That is a possibility but the media seems to be assuming it is the only possibility.

Until we know what Haley was not confused about we can’t evaluate her defiance as positive or negative.

The Hill reports, “Haley fires back at White House: ‘I don’t get confused.’

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley hit back at the White House on Tuesday, denying a top adviser’s claim that she was confused when she said the administration would impose new sanctions on Russia.

“With all due respect, I don’t get confused,” Haley told Fox News’s Dana Perino in a statement […]

Haley’s pointed statement came hours after top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said that Haley “got ahead of the curve” when she announced Sunday that the administration would roll out the sanctions the next day.

[…]

After Haley made the comments [announcing sanctions] some Trump allies privately accused Haley — a vocal Russia hawk — of trying to box in the president on a decision.

Would Nikki Haley try to “box in” Trump into rolling out sanctions on Russia? I’m not sure. But Haley openly opposed Donald Trump until it came down to him as President or Hillary Clinton. While it would seem crazy to attempt to manipulate the White House so brazenly, Haley has the assurance that the media would back her against Trump and believe anything she said about him that was negative.
