Can the USA be the World’s Orphanage?

Written by Onan Coca

Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks (R-AL) hit the nail on the head in a recent interview with CNN’s Alisyn Camerota.

Conservatives have often argued that the left is “trying to have their cake and eat it too” when it comes to illegal immigration and the welfare state.

The simple truth is that you, logically, cannot be for open borders AND the welfare state. It’s impossible. The two cannot coexist.

If you want to have a welfare state, then you must also fight to keep your borders sealed tight. If you want to open your borders, then you must fight to end the welfare state.

Why?

Because the two ideas cannot exist in one nation at the same time, it is financially impossible.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) brilliantly explained this during an open forum in 2017.

Sadly, the progressive left in America (and in Europe for that matter) simply aren’t interested in things like math or reality. They continue to battle for open borders AND a more expansive welfare state, even though the existence of one means the destruction of the other.

When Camerota argued that the United States has a legal and moral duty to take in the world’s hurting and poor, Brooks tried to reason with her by explaining what that really means.

“There are literally billions, billions of people — there are literally billions of people who could make that same kind of argument,” Brooks told Camerota.

“The bottom line is, as much as we might want to have compassion for people around the planet that under these circumstances, America cannot afford it. The Congressional Budget Office, the Government Accountability Office, the comptroller general of the United States of America, they’ve all warned us that the current financial path is unsustainable. Translate that into the United States government is going to go insolvent and bankrupt unless we change our ways, and this is one of the ways in which we can change our ways. We cannot afford to be the planet’s orphanage, the place where everybody comes and lives off the hard work of Americans and lawful immigrants who are already here,” Brooks concluded.

He’s right, of course, but don’t expect anyone on the left to care. They are totally committed to illogical, unreasonable, and wholly destructive policies.
