Obamacare Forces Abortion Destroys Religious Freedom

The Heritage Foundation has put together a great short video explaining the problems that Obamacare presents for our cherished history of religious freedom. The Obama administration has created or exacerbated many problems for our Constitutional Republic, and many of our liberties are under assault. Obamacare has our religious liberty in its crosshairs; it’s up to all of us to defend our religious liberty from the encroaching government.

Sarah Torre, a policy analyst at The Heritage Foundation, answers some tough questions on religious liberty, and why it matters to all Americans.

On March 25, two families will come before the Supreme Court to argue that an Obamacare mandate violates their religious freedom. Obamacare requires that employers provide coverage of abortion-inducing drugs and devices in their health plans, regardless of religious or moral objection.

The Greens, who founded Hobby Lobby, and the Hahns, who run Conestoga Wood Specialties, are Christians who say that this government mandate violates their freedom to provide health coverage that’s consistent with their beliefs. If they don’t comply with the mandate, these family businesses could face government fines of up to $100 per employee per day.

An ominous threat to the cherished American concept of religious liberty, not the easy availability of affordable contraception, is why the HHS mandate has come before the Supreme Court, Torre told Wood:

“The Obama administration has made one thing very clear: that your faith is a private affair. You can follow your beliefs, exercise your faith in your home your house of worship, but step outside those four walls to build a business, to run a charity, and your religious freedom ends. We know that that’s not in line with the Constitution or federal laws protecting religious freedom. Every American, whether or not they’re at home or out in the workplace, should be able to live according to their deeply held convictions.”
