In Louisiana some creative food stamp recipients have been using their EBT cards to get themselves an alternative type of “nourishment.”
A lingerie shop in Louisiana recently (in the last year) began accepting EBT cards (food stamps) as a form of payment for their goods. Locals have noticed a “surge” in activity at the store since they posted that they would be accepting all forms of payments, including food stamps. However, one wonders if the kinds of things being purchased in a lingerie store are really what the public has in mind when contributing to the welfare state.
For example, one woman a local news station spoke to was not happy about the situation.
We were told anything could be purchased there, with the food stamp card,” she said. “No child I know eats edible underwear.”
The woman said to her knowledge, the EBT card is supposed to be used for the support of children.
“It’s still the taxpayers dollars that are being used in a store like that and that really upsets me,” the unidentified woman said.
All this story does is once again illustrate the abject failure of the welfare state to actually accomplish any real good. The food stamp program is supposed to be used by needy families to make sure that they have the basic necessities of life – of which lingerie is not. There are real families all across America who could use the EBT program to make life a bit less harsh; instead we have abusers misusing the system to quench their lusts.
Here are just a few other recent stories about the joke that welfare has become.
