Today’s DOJ resignation involved Rachel Brand, and the media is telling you what to believe about her motives.
Today’s DOJ resignation should make journalists curious. But they already know what motivated Rachel Brand’s decision. Since, as the third-highest ranking officer at the Justice Department, she would have succeeded Rod Rosenstein if he resigned or was fired, she resigned to avoid being put over the Russian investigation because Trump might be mean to her.
But I have no idea why Brand resigned and neither does anyone in the media. As a veteran in the DOJ through the Bush and Obama Administrations, maybe she is a swamp creature that realizes the environment is no longer good for her.
Here is an interview where she defends the FISA system that is being used against Trump:
But maybe she is a good person who realized she would be pressured by the Deep State to malign Trump if she got elevated to Rosenstein’s job.
The New York Times reports, “No. 3 Official at the Justice Department Is Stepping Down.”
Rachel L. Brand, the No. 3 official at the Justice Department, plans to step down after nine months on the job as the country’s top law enforcement agency has been under attack by President Trump, according to two people briefed on her decision.
Ms. Brand’s profile had risen in part because she is next in the line of succession behind the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, who is overseeing the special counsel’s inquiry into Russian influence in the 2016 election. Mr. Trump, who has called the investigation a witch hunt, has considered firing Mr. Rosenstein.
Such a move could have put her in charge of the special counsel and, by extension, left her in the cross hairs of the president.[…]
She has held politically appointed positions in the past three presidential administrations.
