Good ol’ Bernie Sanders obviously liked the taste of losing in the past election, as he is making moves to run again in 2020.
Senator Sanders is allegedly meeting with his top advisors to discuss the run. Over the weekend, he reportedly met with them in Washington, D.C. via Politico.
The campaign advisors told Sanders, “You would be one of the front-runners for the Democratic nomination. And if you want to run, it’s time to start seriously planning accordingly.”
Is this a joke? Will he even be alive or competent enough to run by 2020? If this is the best Democrats have to offer us, Trump won’t even have a challenge in the next election.
During the 2016 campaign, Sanders, viewed at first as a far-fetched candidate, captured the support of millions of young people across the country, catapulting him to be a serious contender for the Democratic nomination. Sanders campaigned as an outsider and counter-option to Hillary Clinton, who would ultimately go on to face then-candidate Donald Trump in the general election.
Sanders’ campaign manager and top political adviser, Jeff Weaver, said: “The senator is extremely focused on making sure the Democrats win in 2018 and that is the primary goal right now: to retake the House and retake the Senate so we can stop this horrendous Trump agenda.”
The senator has consistently remained atop early 2020 polling for Democratic presidential candidates.
In a recent RABA Research poll, Sanders ranked second among rumored Democratic hopefuls, trailing behind only former Vice President Joe Biden, who won’t publicly rule out a presidential run.
Sanders would have likely beat out Hillary Clinton had she not cheated and swung the election. However, there is no way he would have beat President Donald Trump.
