The number of rumors that swirl around the White House and reported by the media is astonishing, really. It seems like there is a segment of every press conferences that is set aside, just to correct the rumors.
This time, the gossip was about White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and his alleged thoughts on quitting, or being fired by the president.
Kelly says that there’s no need to fear, because his spot on the team is not in jeopardy. He said, “I’m not quitting today,” Kelly continued, “I just talked to the president. I don’t think I’m being fired today. And I’m not so frustrated in this job that I’m thinking of leaving.”
Trump has blasted media reports this week suggesting his chief of staff is on the verge of exiting the White House due to frustration with his role or the administration.
“The Fake News is at it again, this time trying to hurt one of the finest people I know, General John Kelly, by saying he will soon be fired,” Trump tweeted Tuesday.
“This story is totally made up by the dishonest media. The Chief is doing a FANTASTIC job for me and, more importantly, for the USA!” he continued.
Trump appointed Kelly as his chief of staff in July, moving the retired Marine general to the position from his role as head of the Department of Homeland Security.
Kelly also told reporters that they are quite a headache for Trump and the White House. He said, “When I watch TV in the morning, it is astounding to me how much is misreported.”
“I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are operating off of contacts, leaks, whatever you call them,” Kelly added, “But I just would offer to you the advice — maybe develop some better sources.”
