If you moved to another country, you would likely learn to learn their language and fit in with their culture. Right? I know I would. They aren’t expected to conform to an outsider’s culture. We are expected to live with theirs.
Not everyone looks at it that way though. There are some people who infiltrate another culture and expect the natives to change their ways to accommodate the foreigners.
A shopkeeper in Berlin was attacked by a Muslim woman in a veil because the store displayed lingerie next to the headscarves in the window.
The incident occurred in the Berlin district of Neukölln, known for its high percentage of migrant residents. The niqab-wearing woman raised her objections, but after her demands to remove the lingerie were denied, she attacked the shopkeeper, Die Weltreports.
The victim, a 40-year-old woman from an Arabic immigrant background, said she saw a tattoo on the neck of her attacker and blonde hair under the niqab. Police say the woman had entered the shop once before and insulted the saleswoman in both German and Turkish before being told to leave.
According to authorities there, they are considering this a religiously motivated crime. However, she fled the scene after the attack and due to her facial covering, they have been unable to identify her. She did leave her phone and a glove behind, though. So it’s only a matter of time before they catch her.
The incident is not the first time a member of the Muslim community in Germany has tried to enforce morality on business owners or residents in Berlin. According to a report from July, Muslims of Chechen origin have repeatedly tried to enforce Islamic morality in the city.
One woman was berated by the “morality police” for wearing makeup. She said, “Even in a hijab, I was called a prostitute, for instance, for wearing eye makeup. And I thought: ‘Who am I trying to please?’”
