The Democrats have stooped to desperate levels. Barely hanging by a thread, Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer threatened to insert a DREAM Act into every bill to move this fall.
The Democrats want Republicans to bring forward a bill that would protect the 800k immigrants who came to as children to America illegally, that were previously covered under DACA. However, DACA has been eliminated, and after six months, they will not be able to legally work here anymore.
Schumer said, “If a clean DREAM Act does not come to the floor in September, we are prepared to attach it to other items this fall until it passes.”
He then claimed, “The president’s decision to end DACA was heartless and it was brainless.”
Democrats made the threat after President Trump announced he would rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which former President Obama implemented in 2012.
Trump gave Congress six months to pass legislation to address the future status of these immigrants.
Schumer added, “If this order stands, hundreds, hundreds of thousands of families will be ripped apart, tens of thousands of American businesses will lose hard-working employees.”
The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, commonly known as the DREAM Act, has languished in Congress for 16 years. It would grant permanent legal status to young immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as long as they meet certain requirements. It was included in a comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the Senate in 2013 but later stalled in the House.
Democrats will have multiple opportunities to tack the bill onto must-pass legislation.
Just because the children were brought over here illegally does not make them citizens all of a sudden. There is an order to things that should be followed. DACA, which was started under Obama, simply showed people that if they wanted to come over illegally with their families, then their children would be granted an immunity. What was there to lose at that point?
They either need to follow the correct procedures to legally become an American citizen, or they can see their way out of the country.
