The complaint that the President is like a Nazi even though reporters aren’t afraid to criticize him, makes no sense.
How is Donald Trump like a Nazi? About the only two similarities I see is that he supports the welfare state and economic interventionism, and he is opposed to communism. But Democrats are comparing Trump to a Nazi in how he speaks about the press. Did the German journalists in Nazi Germany feel safe criticizing Hitler or the Nazi Party? Of course not!
On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Representative John Garamendi (D-CA) argued that President Trump’s rhetoric about the press is akin to Nazi Germany’s attacks on media.
Garamendi stated that President Trump’s speech in Phoenix the night before is “the real Trump, a man that is totally, totally out of control and engaged in rhetoric that slams the press. Which, by the way, happens to be the very first thing that a dictator will do to secure his position is to delegitimize the press. And Trump has been at that for his entire campaign, in fact, his entire presidency. We’ve got to be very concerned about that.”
Garamendi went on to accuse the President of being deceptive.
It took real chutzpah to accuse Trump of “delegitimizing the press.” They’re a collection of (very few) private companies. They’re not a public institution. The presidency is a public institution. By telling Russian conspiracy lies about the election, the media has been truly delegitimizing Donald Trump since he took office!
