But we don’t know why special counsel Mueller raided Manafort in such a dramatic fashion.
Why Robert Mueller raided Paul Manafort’s home is something of a mystery at this point. He told a federal judge that Manafort was unlikely to cooperate with a Grand Jury subpoena. But we don’t know yet. Another possibility is that this pre-dawn raid was an act of intimidation. Mueller knows that we has the media and Congress supporting him. On the other hand, his reputation will suffer with these “friends” if he doesn’t convict someone of something.
The New York Times reports, “Manafort’s Home Searched as Part of Mueller Inquiry.”
Investigators for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, recently searched the Northern Virginia home of President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, for tax documents and foreign banking records, a sign that the inquiry into Mr. Manafort has broadened, according to a person familiar with the matter.[…]
Mr. Manafort’s spokesman confirmed that an F.B.I. raid had been carried out.
“Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well,” said Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Mr. Manafort.
