Rand Paul: ‘Without Scalise’s Security, Everyone Would have Died’

Remember that one little thing that Conservatives swear by when it comes to our second amendment? Here, I’ll refresh your memory:

Good guys with guns stop bad guys with guns!

After today’s shooting in Virginia, where a gunman attacked people at a ballfield  and targeted Republicans, Republican Sen. Rand Paul said “everybody probably would have died” if not for House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s security.

Paul said, “Everybody probably would have died, except for the fact that the Capitol Hill police were there,” Paul said on MSNBC. “And the only reason they were there is because we had a member of leadership on our team.”

Scalise was among the people shot, as he took a bullet to the hip when the gunman opened fire with a rifle at the ballfields. They were at the fields for the annual congressional baseball game in which it is Democrats vs. Republicans.

Scalise was the only member there who had a security detail, and it’s a good thing he did!

Paul continued, “If Scalise wouldn’t have been on the team — unfortunately he was hit and I hope he does well — but also by him being there he probably saved everybody else’s lives,” he said, “If you don’t have a leadership person there there would have been no security there.”

Two members of the security team were hit but they continued to protect the scene.

Paul added, “Had they not been there, it would have been a massacre, because there is no escaping a guy with — if he’s got several hundred bullets. And we had no weapons and no place to hide. So if he would have advanced on the rest of us, there would have been no chance. The only chance we had was that the shots were returned by the Capitol Hill police.”

Congressman Mike Bishop was actually playing in the game when the gunfire broke out. He also stated that if there had not been someone there with a gun, they all would have been killed. Bishop said, “By the Grace of God, One of the Folks Here Had a Weapon to Fire Back”

Here is what he had to say:
