Kansas Representative Patsy Terrell (D) Hutchinson was found dead in her hotel room early Wednesday. According to Topeka Police, she died of natural causes. They have not immediately released details about her death, and conducted an investigation at the scene at the Ramada hotel in downtown.
The GOP took a moment of silence for Terrell on Wednesday night. She began serving in the Kansas House in January of 2017 after being elected to serve the District 102 in November of 2016.
Rep. Jim Ward (D) of Wichita, Kansas gave the following statement:
“We are heartbroken to share the news that Representative Patsy Terrell passed away today. Patsy cast a bright light in the Kansas House of Representatives and was an unrelenting advocate for the people of District 102 and Hutchinson. She was proud of her work in the legislature and gave it her full commitment. We will miss her cheerful spirit, big smile, and quest for making Kansas a better state.”
Plans to celebrate her life “will be released at a later time,” according to Ward.
Rep. Linda Gallagher, (R), of Lenexa, Kansas stated, “I’m in shock […] She was a very dedicated representative and focused on doing the very best she could to represent her district in the Hutchinson area. She was one of the driving forces behind trying to get the very best possible tax bill that we could get.”
