Jim Carrey Set to Stand Trial for Death of Ex-Girlfriend

Jim Carrey, one of America’s favorite comedians, is set to stand trial for the death of his late girlfriend….However, it isn’t what you think. He didn’t murder her. Cathriona White killed herself, and her death was already officially ruled as a suicide by the LA County Coroner’s office, in July 2016.

So why is the Dumb and Dumber actor being tried for the Irish makeup artist’s death? White’s mother, Brigid Sweetman, blames Carrey. She says he provided White with the prescription drug that she overdosed on. Raymond Boucher, Carrey’s lawyer, previously filed to have the case dismissed, but Sweetman is not giving up.

After the hearing, Boucher stated,  “Mr. Carrey loved Ms. White dearly and so obviously it will be a very painful process for him.”

Carrey and White split just days before her death. The night before she committed suicide, he texted and asked about a bottle of painkillers of his that had gone missing.

Metro reports:

Bottles next to her bed were later revealed to be under the pseudonym Arthur King, and intended for Carrey.

According to ET, the report states: ‘Given this, it appears likely that the bottles for ‘Arthur King’ found on [White’s] bedside table were the prescriptions he was referring to [in the text message].’

Ahmed Ibrahim, Ms Sweetman and White’s ex-husband Mark Burton lawyer, urged Judge Deirdre Hill of Los Angeles Superior Court not to delay proceedings any longer and admitted that the case, which involves the Drug Dealer Liability Act, is not typical.

‘We are clearly not alleging that Jim Carrey was selling drugs out of the back of his pickup truck and was therefore not marketing or selling in the traditional sense of what that word would bring to mind,’ he said, according to local newspaper MyNewsLA.com, who also report that Boucher ‘argued the plaintiffs’ court papers are vague regarding the wrongful death claim because they do not state whether they believe White died from negligence or from an intentional act’.

‘I need clarity and that’s fair,’ Boucher said.

Carrey gave an emotional tribute to White when she died. He stated, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” he continued, “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Carrey has denied all the allegations.

It is hard to believe that he would have supplied his ex with the painkillers, especially with all the presented facts.
