Imagine a new neighbors move in, and they are a typical family: dad, mom, three kids, and perhaps even a dog. The mom is a pretty blonde, dad works hard, and the children attend school with your children. Heck, the mom is even involved enough to volunteer at the elementary school. Such a perfect family, right?
Here’s a wrench for your fantasy: the mother is a serial killer who was jailed for more than 12 years on three counts of rape and murder; one of which was her younger sister. Still want her volunteering with your little Johnny and Susie at school?
Karla Homolka, a 47-year old Canadian, murdered Kristen French, Leslie Mahaffy, and Tammy (Karla’s 15-year-old sister) with her then husband, Paul Bernardo, in the 90’s. She was convicted in 1993, and divorced him during her sentence. Then Karla married Thierry Bordelais, her lawyer’s brother ,when she was released in 2005. They now have three children together. Go figure.
Homolka has been spotted volunteering at her children’s private Christian school, located in Montreal.
She was pictured outside Greaves Adventist Academy by the Montreal Gazette this week – much to the outrage of concerned parents.
The convicted killer recently helped supervise a group of kindergarten students during a field trip, and on another occasion was invited into a classroom to show the children how to knit, City News reports.
Homolka also brought in a dog for a show-and-tell class and has been seen dropping and picking her children up from the school.’We don’t want her here,’ one parent said. ‘How would you feel knowing that your child is interacting with a person who is a serial killer? It’s not right.’
A Seventh-day Adventist Church spokesman said the school board was fully aware of Homolka’s history.
‘She is not a regular volunteer and can never be alone with any children, either in school or churches,’ the spokesman said.
So they know of her past, yet still allow her on campus. This baffles me! Is she not a registered sex offender after helping rape those three girls? Not to mention, she is a murderer! How on earth could the church’s school board have thought this was a good idea?
I understand forgiveness, but you also cannot forget the past. She shouldn’t have ever been allowed on that campus.
