Bloomberg Blasted

In recent weeks, Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, (MAIG) has faced immense criticism for listing the names of criminals and terrorists in their rolls of “victims” of gun violence.

Fox News was one of the first to report that at a rally in New Hampshire the gun control advocacy group read a list of some 4,500 people who had been killed by firearms since the awful shootings in Newtown, CT. Gun Rights protesters who had gathered in response to the event began jeering when one of the “Boston Bombers”–Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s– name was read. “He’s a terrorist!” some in the crowd were heard to shout.

The list apparently also included other criminals and killers who had been killed by police while being pursued.

The reason the rally was being held in New Hampshire was because of New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte’s recent vote against stricter gun control laws. Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau who had been a member of the MAIG, has since distanced herself from Mayor Bloomberg’s anti-gun group saying;

“I simply cannot be part of an organization that chooses this course of action instead of cooperatively working with those that have proven over a lifetime of work their true intentions … I have faith that Senator Ayotte will continue to work toward finding a responsible solution relative to these issues.”

The NRA has produced a video that hammers Mayor Bloomberg and MAIG.

Immediately after Republicans were able to defeat the more stringent gun laws, (with the help of some Democrats) Bloomberg took to the media to rip the Senators who dared to vote for liberty.

bloomberg“Today’s vote is a damning indictment of the stranglehold that special interests have on Washington… More than 40 U.S. senators would rather turn their backs on the 90 percent of Americans who support comprehensive background checks than buck the increasingly extremist wing of the gun lobby… The only silver lining is that we now know who refuses to stand with the 90 percent of Americans – and in 2014, our ever-expanding coalition of supporters will work to make sure that voters don’t forget.”

Mayor Bloomberg was wrong to think that the American public would respond negatively and overthrow the Republican Party. The truth is, only the Democrats have been hurt by this issue. Perhaps Bloomberg’s efforts to restrict American liberties has a silver lining as well… maybe next time legislators want to curb the 2nd Amendment they’ll remember Mayor Bloomberg’s foolish attempts and they’ll think twice about moving forward.
