The video below has gone viral as people share the heartbreaking moment when the realization set in for one dog that she has been abandoned. For many people who drop their pup off, they turn and leave without ever looking back. They never see the look of terror and hurt on the pleading face of the pet they leave behind.

Electra is afour-year-old, blue and white Pit Bull Terrier Mix. She is roughly 4 years old.

Here is the video, viewed nearly 400,000 times,  and message posted by a shelter worker:

ELECTRA represents the face os sadness and reality in the shelters. Sometimes I would like to understand owners surrendering their animals and I don’t like to judge them but when you see how the dogs come to the receiving department with their happy faces and they stand all proud I just can’t understand.. (I’m speaking in general, not sure if she was found as stray or she was an owner surrendered)
ELECTRA is available now for public adoption. Hopefully she can leaves soon. Please share so people know she is there.

Thankfully, Electra has since been adopted, after her drop off date on May 17th. However, there are still many other pets who are in the same situation.

Abandoning dogs, whether it be at a shelter or on the side of the road, is sadly a very common occurrence. Puppies grow in to big dogs that lose their “cuteness” and then people realize they only wanted the dog while it was a puppy. Dogs also need food, attention, love, training, etc. In many ways they are like a child.

Perhaps the person who left their former-friend, Electra, at the shelter sees this video and understands the hopelessness left written all over her face….and maybe this will make you think twice before surrounding your pup.
