Famed actress Maria Conchita-Alonso has tangled with some tough liberals in her time (who can forget her battle with Sean Penn for his support of Hugo Chavez?). However, it seems that this time she’s come out on the losing side.
Recently Ms. Alonso recorded an ad with Gubenatorial hopeful Tim Donnelly.
No big deal, right? Famous people lend their support to politicians all of the time. Sadly, it’s no big deal when an actor or actress lends their support to a Democrat… but Mr. Donnelly is a Tea Party Republican. So Ms. Alonso is now dealing with the repurcussions, and one of them is – she’s out of a job.
The actress was to perform next month at the Brava Theater Center in San Francisco’s Mission District in a Spanish-language version of “The Vagina Monologues,” scheduled for a run from February 14th through 17th. The show is being produced by none other than Eliana Lopez, wife of San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.
“We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately,” Lopez told KPIX 5. She said Alonso abruptly resigned from the cast on Friday, given the backlash on the immigration issue.
Liberal defenders of the program have said that while Alonso has every right to voice her political beliefs, she would have cost the production money and therefore should have been fired. They’re not completely wrong – but imagine if you will, a world where a liberal is fired from their job for the same reason. What if Ben Affleck were fired from his upcoming movie for voicing support for President Obama?
Do you have a hard time imagining this scenario? Me too.
Doesn’t that say something about our society?
Where is it completely acceptable to fire half of the country because of their political views, but it is obscene to even consider doing the same to the other half of the country?
John Edwards was right – there are two America’s — only it has nothing to do with economics and everything to do with politics. We conservatives are being marginalized, ostracized and persecuted for our beliefs. In both big and small ways, the liberal Politically Correct culture is moving to cut us out of the “Town Square” political process. Even as we fight it, they are winning, largely due to their teammate – the liberal media – who agrees with them on almost every issue in question.
While Ms. Alonso may have lost her job, we can help make sure it wasn’t in vain. Lend your support in any way you see fit to Tim Donnelly for Governor of California and let’s show Ms. Alonso that we stand with her.
