Russia Responds to Comey’s Testimony

According to Putin spokesman and top aide Dmitry Peskov, after witnessing the congressional hearing with FBI Director James Comey, the U.S. intelligence community is ‘confused.’ AP reported:

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Tuesday that “the hearing participants are confused about the situation,” adding: “They are trying to find confirmation of their own conclusions but can’t find either proof or confirmation and are going round in circles.”

Comey confirmed for the first time Monday to the House committee the existence of an ongoing counterintelligence probe into links between advisers to Trump and Russian officials.

The Kremlin has dismissed claims from U.S. intelligence agencies that President Vladimir Putin authorized a campaign to influence the U.S. presidential election last year in favor of Trump.

Peskov sat down with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria recently and unequivocally stated that the Russians had no part in the U.S. election.

He acknowledged that they did prefer Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton, only because Hillary was so hostile to them. Why would they prefer Hillary under such circumstances? But having a preference in no way meant that they must have orchestrated things such that Trump won. If they had instead preferred Hillary, and she won, would that mean that they must have helped her win?

Comey stated during his hearing that there was no evidence for Trump’s claims of being ‘wiretapped’ just prior to the election. I’m hoping he’ll say the same exact thing when he’s asked at the end of his investigation whether there’s evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. So far, he’s parroted the claims of the ‘intelligence community’ that Putin hated Hillary, and that they wanted Trump to win. That may be true, but that is not evidence that Russia interfered with our election.
