Face It: The Second Civil War Has Begun – What We Can Expect

Written by Nicholas Wishek

Since we are more divided today than at any time since the Civil War it should be no surprise that what we are really seeing now is the start of a second Civil War. This one that will be fought with ballots rather than bullets and waged in the court of public opinion instead of on battlefields, but it will be just as consequential to the future of our nation.

Well into the second week of the Trump Administration two things are abundantly clear. First, it’s certain that Donald J. Trump is a doer, not a talker and will strive energetically to keep his promise to make America great again. It is also dangerously obvious that this terrifies the left, which includes Democrat leadership and the Washington establishment. They will stop at practically nothing to prevent this. In Congress the Democrats have already shown that they are not willing to work with the President for the good of the country. Sixty-seven Democrat members of Congress didn’t even attend Trump’s inauguration. The Democrat Party will attempt to obstruct his policies and delegitimize the President at every turn.

The left knows that they, like the South in 1860, have lost control of the government. Since they can’t dream of resorting to force of arms to get their way, they will attempt to regain control of the government by winning the next elections. To do this they have powerful allies. Most of the information media is on their side, as is the vast majority of entertainment media. Whoopi Goldberg on the popular morning show, The View, recently implied his values are not much different than those of the Taliban’s.

This is nothing new as leftist celebrities routinely attack President Trump. Ashley Judd linked President Trump to Hitler, slavery, and just about every vile thing you could name. And all of these attacks are repeated by the major media in a sympathetic light. CNN on January 21 said “Madonna was just trying to express herself at the Women’s March on Saturday,” when she said she dreams about blowing up the White House. Since these sources are the main suppliers of “news” for low information voters this gives the Democrats a significant advantage in the war of information. But first they must stop Trump’s reforms, because if they work the Democrat chances of regaining power evaporate. Therefore they will continue to try to block his policies and delegitimize Trump and his supporters any way they can.

Demonizing Trump was Hillary Clinton’s strategy and it came close to succeeding. She did, after all, win the popular vote by a large margin. Look to the left to double down on this approach labeling Trump a racist, a hater, a whatever works best at the moment, from here on out. They have not and will not hesitate to shade the facts or outright lie to do so. Take for example, President Trump’s recent executive order to temporarily stop travel to the United States from seven selected countries. These countries either have chaotic governments with rampant terrorist activity or governments that actively support terrorism. Yet this has been labeled by the left as a Muslim ban on innocent refugees. The major media has jumped to the defense of this dishonest interpretation of the Executive Order routinely using the term Muslim ban, which it is not. For instance, Lester Holt anchored a recent NBC Nightly News report on this from the Statue of Liberty. The implication is obvious as shown by the literally dozens of newspapers and magazine headlines depicting Lady Liberty crying over the “Muslim ban.” That this is a false claim doesn’t matter to the left. As they hoped, all this has resulted in activating the leftist base and has sent thousands of ‘useful idiots’ into the streets to demonstrate against the President.

And then, of course, there are the dozens of lawsuits being filed by Democrats against this Executive Order and everything else Trump attempts to do. This, too, is a tactic certain to continue even if it is unlikely that any of the lawsuits will be decided in favor of the left. But, by such delaying actions the Democrats hope to prevent President Trump from improving conditions in our country before the next elections.

All this is deliberately designed to fire up the anger and resentment toward this administration and to hopefully motivate the left’s base to turn out in coming elections thereby putting Democrats back in power. The problem is as they rile up their supporters’ hatred toward Trump and his backer’s, violence is more and more liable to erupt. After all, if you’re fighting evil anything is justified. Given this, blood on the streets is a very real possibility. The violence at a planned Milo Yiannopoulos speech at Berkley on Wednesday is likely to be a preview of things to come.  Unfortunately for the left this kind of behavior will be increasingly viewed by Trump supporters and rational Americans as the antithesis of what our country stands for and will ultimately backfire on them. The left doesn’t realize this and that is why they will lose the war for the hearts and minds of the majority of Americans.
