Israel Defies Obama and the United Nations

Good for Israel.

No sovereign nation should acquiesce to the insane and overbearing demands of outsiders who don’t have their best interests at heart, and such is the situation that Israel currently finds itself in. The United Nations, along with the Obama administration, recently delivered a harsh blow to Israel by demanding that the Israeli people had no right to build on their own land. Thankfully, the Israeli government seems ready to thumb their noses at the U.N. and continues moving forward in a manner that is best for her people while ignoring the haughty criticism of uninformed outsiders.

On Sunday Netanyahu struck a defiant note in criticizing President Obama for stabbing Israel in the back, while also noting that the people of Israel were looking forward to Donald Trump’s presidency.

The Israeli government has also already announced that it will defy the U.N. resolution and will continue to move forward in their own best interests.

“Israel rejects this shameful anti-Israel resolute at the U.N. and will not abide by its terms.”

Deputy Jerusalem Mayor Meir Turgeman also commented on the issue, saying the city remained “unfazed” and their plans remained unchanged by the U.N.’s despotic behavior.

Jerusalem Municipality is set to approve thousands of new housing units in the eastern sector of the city this week.

“We remain unfazed by the U.N. vote, or by any other entity that tries to dictate what we do in Jerusalem,” Deputy Jerusalem Mayor Meir Turgeman, who heads the Jerusalem District Zoning Committee, told the the pro-Netanyahu daily Israel Hayom, the Associated Press reported.

“I hope the Israeli government and the new U.S. administration will support us, so we can make up for the lack (of construction) during the eight years of the Obama administration,” Turgeman said.

In response to the U.N.’s intolerable behavior, Israel has decided to sanction the countries who voted against them and will reduce diplomatic relations with 12 of those nations.

CNN reported Monday that Israel suspended working ties with Britain, France, Russia, China, Japan, Ukraine, Angola, Egypt, Uruguay, Spain, Senegal and New Zealand. The report follows a similar story Sunday night in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz

The curtailing of working relations means Israeli ministers are to keep travel to those 12 countries to a minimum, while foreign ministers from those countries won’t be received by Israel, according to the reports. Business between Israel and those countries’ embassies will also be suspended, the reports say.

But the order does not apply to Israeli ambassadors in those 12 countries, meaning they will be able to continue their work unabated.

One wonders if the Trump administration will be able to right the wrongs committed against Israel during the Obama era, or if the damage is already too great to rectify. It’s been a hard eight years for Israel (and the USA). Hopefully we can help to make the next decade great (again).
