I had speculated in a previous article that perhaps the Clinton campaign was using Jill Stein to spearhead a vote recount project. As it turns out, Hillary Clinton’s campaign has joined in on the fun.
Now, they still could have used Stein to “test the waters” to see what the public reaction would be and see how much money could be raised, and when they saw the response wasn’t all that bad – at least from their side – they decided to join in.
Who knows. But what we do know is that Clinton’s campaign is now involved. Bloomberg reported:
Hillary Clinton’s campaign lawyer announced plans to participate in vote recounts of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan if they take place, yet doesn’t expect to overturn the election of Donald Trump as president.
If Green Party candidate Jill Stein initiates recounts in all of those states as she intends, the Clinton campaign “will participate in order to ensure the process proceeds in a manner that is fair to all sides,” lawyer Marc Elias said Saturday in a post on the blogging website Medium.com.
Of course, the entire thing is ridiculous. They had to have known that such an effort – particularly when partly undertaken by Hillary’s campaign – would elicit mockery and ridicule from conservatives, considering how big of a deal the media and the Clinton campaign made Trump’s noncommittal response to whether or not he’d concede the election.
And now, here they are, the Clinton campaign included, not satisfied with the election results and demanding a recount. They’ve got to at least admit the irony.
In a statement to Bloomberg, Trump’s former campaign manager and current senior adviser Kellyanne Conway pointed out the hypocrisy:
“What a pack of sore losers. After asking Mr. Trump and his team a million times on the trail, ‘Will HE accept the election results?’ it turns out Team Hillary and their new BFF Jill Stein can’t accept reality. Rather than adhere to the tradition of graciously conceding and wishing the winner well, they’ve opted to waste millions of dollars and dismiss the democratic process. The people have spoken. Time to listen up. #YesYourPresident.”
Hillary Clinton’s campaign lawyer stated, “We believe we have an obligation to the more than 64 million Americans who cast ballots for Hillary Clinton to participate in ongoing proceedings to ensure that an accurate vote count will be reported.”
