Huckabee Bans Cracker Barrel, Cracker Barrel Un-bans Duck Dynasty

Well that happened fast. Over the weekend, Cracker Barrel made the decision to remove some of their Duck Dynasty paraphernalia from their stores. Cracker Barrel customers responded, overwhelmingly, that they were not happy with the move. Former Arkansas Governor and one-time Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee led the charge with a post he placed on Facebook over the weekend.

Cracker Barrel must have done some pretty quick math and realized that the people they were alienating with this move were their core customers. Because it didn’t take long for them to have a change of heart and try to smooth things over with their erstwhile fans. Here’s Cracker Barrel’s mea culpa from Facebook.

You have to appreciate the humility that Cracker Barrel speaks with in their Facebook post, but it’s hard to know if it is true humility or simply a desire to not lose any customers due to their needless flub.

What happened here was that Cracker Barrel fell into a trap that our Politically Correct culture has created. Cracker Barrel shouldn’t have to consider whether leaving some t-shirts and hats on the shelves will offend people. Those people have the ability to walk right past the products without purchasing them, and in that way, they can show their disapproval. But no, our fascist social culture continually demands that things they deem to be offensive be banned. This attitude, this predilection, is killing our freedom of speech and will soon do the same to our other liberties.

So, what do you think? Do you forgive Cracker Barrel and go get yourself an Old Timer’s Breakfast tonight? Or do you hold a grudge and decide to eat at Chick-fil-A instead?
