Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert hit the Clinton campaign where it hurts earlier this week when he joked that Hillary Clinton was obviously “mentally impaired.”
Gohmert was speaking at the Value Voters Summit in Washington, D.C. when he made some comments that are causing great angst and consternation in the main stream media. The Texan was giving his own opinion on the many different health rumors swirling about the Democrat candidate for President when he half-jokingly reminded his listeners that there could actually be a connection between Clinton’s health and one past mishap in particular. First, Gohmert led with a joke seemingly aimed at both major party candidates…
“When you look at the kind of people running for president, no-brainers are a good thing now.”
However, the Congressman quickly shifted gears and focused his following comments on Mrs. Clinton in particular.
“A true believer does what Jesus did … you don’t make fun of people who are impaired, have special needs, and whether you like her or not, Hillary Clinton’s made clear, she is mentally impaired. And this is not somebody you should be making fun of. So I get the impression that in law school, and along the way, she’s been very, very smart. But I don’t know, maybe it was the concussion, the fall back when she did, or maybe who knows, they won’t tell us what really is going on with her, but if I were going to smash cell phones, BlackBerrys, I’d use a two-pound sledge. Who knows? Maybe somebody got to wailing around and hit her again, I don’t know, but we need to be praying for Hillary Clinton. There are special needs there, there is mental impairment. And, I mean, seriously, she can’t remember.”
This wasn’t the first time that Gohmert made comments about Clinton that riled the media. Earlier this week he off-handedly remarked that “Hillary’s brain is in a blender,” seemingly alluding to the same issues that he was discussing in his speech at the Value Voters Summit. Gohmert later did nothing to diffuse the media’s dismay when he “apologized” for his statements by making yet another joke about Mrs. Clinton’s mental state. “That was not a proper thing to say, because again, I’m making fun of the mentally impaired and that’s not right,” Gohmert quipped.
While Gohmert may have been half-joking, and the mainstream media may believe that all of the concern swirling about Hillary Clinton’s health to be driven by partisan paranoia, there are most certainly reasons to be concerned. Dr. Drew Pinsky recently made some comments about his concern for Mrs. Clinton’s health and healthcare. CNN, later pressured Dr. Drew to withdraw his previous statements; when he would not, the network chose to fire him and cancel his show. Listen to what Dr. Drew had to say about why he was so worried.
Not only was Dr. Drew worried about Clinton’s level of healthcare, but there was also this:
“Then she falls, hits her head, and as a complication she has something called a transverse sinus thrombosis this is an exceedingly rare clot. I’ve only seen one of these in my career. Which is a clot in the collecting system for the cerebral spinal fluid, and it essentially guarantees that somebody has something wrong with their coagulation system…
It’s bizarre. Maybe they have their reasons but from a distance it looks bizarre…
When she hit her head she had to wear these prism glasses when she came out, that is brain damage! It’s affecting her balance, now clearly it hasn’t affected her cognition, but tell us a little more about that!…”
Brain damage? Seems like something we should be taking about, no?
I’m not sure that Dr. Drew is right about this not affecting her cognition, either. In light of the recently released interview with the FBI where the candidate herself said that she could not remember something important on 41 separate occasions… that seems to me to imply that the blow to her head most certainly did affect her cognition.
Anyway, the point is this… maybe Rep. Gohmert isn’t too far from the mark when he questions Hillary Clinton’s mental capacity.
