A five-year-old New Jersey boy saved up his allowance of a seven month time period and decided he would buy lunch for his local police department.

William Evertz Jr. took his seven month savings to a Subway restaurant this past Wednesday and purchased sandwiches for the police officers of Winslow Township.

According to his mother, Tara, young William saw it as an opportunity to allow the policemen to rest and also be healthy.

The officers did not let the boy’s good deed go unnoticed either. They made him an honorary officer and even gave him a special shirt to wear and badges. They even took him for a ride in a police car with light and sirens blaring.

“Williams’s actions are remarkable for anyone, let alone a 5-year-old. Winslow Twp PD commends William for his acts of kindness and his parents for raising such a great kid,” the Facebook post read.

This is not the only act of kindness that William has expressed. In an email, his mother also wrote that he plans to donate clothes, school supplies, and toys to a domestic violence shelter, food and supplies to a local animal shelter, and $25 to a less fortunate family to assist with daycare expenses.

It’s wonderful to see young children like William being taught to be kind and compassionate to others with his own money rather than petition government to be kind with someone else’s, don’t you think? Well done William and I’d also like to say that his mother deserves a pat on the back for instilling in her son a value of others. Well done Ms. Evertz!
