52 People Shot in Chicago and no Rioting or Looting?

People rioted in Milwaukee after a police officer shot an armed suspect, but there were no riots after 52 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend.

Out of the almost 52 people shot, nine died, reports the Chicago Sun Times. One of the victims, shot outside his home, was the son of a Chicago police officer.

Other victims include a 10-year-old boy who had a bullet graze him, and a 17-year-old boy who died from his gunshot wounds. An unidentified man was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds Sunday morning.

In January alone, Chicago had 51 homicides and 272 gunshot victims. The number of homicides in January has doubled in two years. January of 2014 saw 20 homicides, and January of 2015 saw 29 homicides. A report released by the Major Cities Chiefs Association revealed that crime in Chicago has risen over the past year. According to the report, the overall violent crime rate in Chicago has increased 27 percent in comparison to statistics from mid-year 2015. (RELATED: Homicides and Violent Crime Up In Major Cities In The Past Year)

Meanwhile, numerous riots occurred in Milwaukee over a police shooting of an armed suspect. Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said that protesters set fire to six businesses. Protesters also set police cars on fire, threw bricks through police car windows and threw rocks at the police.
