The now-infamous tarmac meeting between former President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch has given rise to speculation about the details and circumstances of that meeting. Was Bill Clinton trying to reach a plea deal for his wife? Was he trying to protect himself? Was the meeting completely innocent and, if anything, just bad optics?

According to presumptive Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton, the meeting that took place between her husband and the Attorney General was “purely social.” In an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press,” the former secretary of state revealed what she believed to be some of the details of that meeting:
“Well, I learned about it in the news and it was a short chance meeting at an airport tarmac. And both of their planes, as I understand it, were landing on the same tarmac at about the same time. The attorney general’s husband was there. They said hello. They talked about grandkids, which is very much on our minds these days, golf, their mutual friend, former attorney general Janet Reno. It was purely social. They did not veer off of speaking about those kinds of, you know, very common exchanges.”
When asked by Chuck Todd about people’s suspicions about the meeting, Clinton responded:
“Hindsight is 20/20. Both the attorney general and my husband have said that they wouldn’t do it again, even though it was from all accounts that I have heard and seen, an exchange of pleasantries but nobody wants to see the conclusions drawn and they said they would not do it again.”
Nothing in politics is accidental or “chance.” I think Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch intended on their meeting being secret, but because they got caught, they’ve been trying to cover it up and claim they were just saying hello. Who’s going to believe that?
