Conservative Congressman Slams Democrat Attack on 2nd Amendment!

Oh. SNAP.

Representative [score]Justin Amash[/score] (R-MI) has been one of the most consistent conservative supporters of the Constitution in Congress for years. He often bucks both party’s attacks on civil liberties and our constitutional rights, and he’s paid the price in Washington, D.C. for his willingness to defend our rights. Rep. Amash recently lost his cool on Twitter after watching the Democrat Party attempt to destroy our 2nd Amendment rights with their “holier than thou” rhetoric and their liberal fascist sensibilities.

This is the point: in our rush to protect innocent lives from evil Muslim terrorists, we should not be forced to give away our liberty. What is life, if lived as a slave? Our forefathers have toiled, fought, bled, and died to preserve liberty for us and the generations to come – will we really be the generation that makes their sacrifices meaningless?

Due Process is the last line of defense (legally speaking) for the powerless citizen who is forced to face down a seemingly all-powerful government. Without due process, an innocent citizen is completely at the mercy of the government force standing before him. Without due process, if the law enforcement believes him to be guilty there is little recourse for the innocent person who has been wrongly accused.

For those who naively believe that the government would never abuse its power, once the citizen has been stripped of due process, you must have a very short memory indeed. Consider the abuses of the EPA and BLM against innocent ranchers in the West. Consider the IRS assault on conservatives during the Obama era. Consider the NSA massive unconstitutional spy network and how it has abused the right to privacy of millions of Americans. Consider how the Patriot Act has so often been used, not against terrorists, but against American citizens who have taken part in activities that have NOTHING to do with national security.

With due process gone, the entire Constitution and the Bill of Rights can be sidestepped… all the government has to do is add your name to their list.
