Bernie Sanders Cannot Defend Socialism’s Failure in South America

Written by Onan Coca

Democrat candidate for President “Bernie” Bernard Sanders (I-VT) ran into a bit of trouble this past week while doing an interview with the popular Spanish language station Univision. Reporter León Krauze deigned to ask the openly Socialist Senator about the MANY failures of socialism, particularly as it related to many of Univision’s viewers in Latin America. Sadly, Mr. Sanders had nothing to say on the matter, instead arguing that he was focused on campaigning to be President of the United States (presumably not Latin America).

León Krauze: I am sure that you know about this topic: various leftist governments, especially the populists, are in serious trouble in Latin America. The socialist model in Venezuela has the country near collapse. Argentina, also Brazil, how do you explain that failure?

Bernie Sanders: You are asking me questions…

León Krauze: I am sure you’re interested in that.

Bernie Sanders: I am very interested, but right now I’m running for President of the United States.

León Krauze: So you don’t have an opinion about the crisis in Venezuela?

Bernie Sanders: Of course I have an opinion, but as I said, I’m focused on my campaign.

Here’s the thing. Krauze’s question is incredibly pertinent, and Sanders should be forced to respond. Why? Because the very same policies that have destroyed the economies of Venezuela and Argentina, while also wreaking havoc in Brazil, Ecuador, and Cuba … are the policies that Sanders wants to pursue here in the United States! Moreover, these Socialist policies have failed everywhere that they have been tried – bankrupting the Soviet Union, sending Africa into a spiral of economic ruin, and leading Europe to the brink of insolvency.

Sanders should be forced to answer for the failures of his beloved belief system, because it will unmask him and his beliefs as ignorant, unworkable, and entirely wrong for America.
