On Friday May 13, 2016 the Obama Administration ordered every public school across the country to bow to the President’s will and immediately “un-gender” their restrooms. The President’s order threatens to remove federal funding from any school that does not immediately acquiesce to the President’s decree.

A joint letter from the Departments of Education and Justice went to schools Friday with guidelines to ensure that “transgender students enjoy a supportive and nondiscriminatory school environment,” the Obama administration said Thursday…

“There is no room in our schools for discrimination of any kind, including discrimination against transgender students on the basis of their sex,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch said. “This guidance gives administrators, teachers and parents the tools they need to protect transgender students from peer harassment and to identify and address unjust school policies.”

The letter does not carry the force of law but the message was clear: Fall in line or face loss of federal funding.

transbathroomThis directive is a direct assault on the 10th Amendment, and we cannot allow for the President’s unlawful decree to stand. While it may seem that we are powerless against the overbearing federal government, we do have recourse. We can demand that our local and state authorities stand boldly against Obama’s demands!

Already the Lt. Governor’s of two states, Texas and North Carolina, have announced their resolve to stand firmly against the unconstitutional action.

Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick (R-TX) said, “He says he’s going to withhold funding if schools do not follow the policy. In Texas, he can keep his thirty pieces of silver. We will not yield to blackmail from the president of the United States. Parents are not going to send their 14-year-old daughters into the shower or bathroom with 14-year-old boys. It’s not going to happen…”

North Carolina Lt. Governor Dan Forest (R-NC) articulated a similar position,

“North Carolina will not stand by and let our locker rooms and high school showers be used for social experimentation at the expense of the privacy and protection of our young boys and girls… The President needs a reminder that the United States Constitution grants education decision authority to the states and localities not to the President of the United States… North Carolina public schools in receipt of the President’s letter are reminded that there is a binding state law on the books governing bathroom policy and the President’s non-binding directive is merely his attempt to push his version of a social policy on our state with no Constitutional authority to do so. It should be rejected as a matter of principle and policy.”

So what can we do?

We can demand that our local and state authorities follow the lead of these heroic Lt. Governors and stand stiff-necked in the face of Obama’s immoral and illegal attacks. Separately we cannot hope to withstand the federal government’s attempt to roll over our Constitutional rights, but together we can make a Difference.
