Ted Cruz Calls it a Campaign – Donald Trump is the Nominee of the GOP

Written by Onan Coca

On Tuesday Donald Trump defeated Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the race for the nomination from Indiana.

But this was not the heaviest blow for Cruz supporters — the most crushing moment unfolded during Cruz’s concession speech, when the Senator announced that he would be suspending his campaign for the White House.

“From the beginning I have said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory. Tonight, I’m sorry to say… It appears that path has been foreclosed. Together, we left it all on the field in Indiana. We gave it everything we’ve got, but the voters chose another path. And so, with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign.”

Erick Erickson at the Resurgent shared the sad news:

The strain on Ted Cruz and his family had to be enormous, particularly with the vicious attacks by Trump and his supporters. God bless him. History will note that the Republican leadership in Washington vastly prefers defeat with Trump than defeat with Cruz because a Cruz nomination would both further embolden conservatives to fight the leadership of the party and would endanger the jobs of Republican consultants.
