In the latest Rasmussen Report only 24% of likely U.S. voters think the country is heading in the right direction, while a whopping 69% think we aren’t. Unfortunately for traditional Americans, a good portion of those dissatisfied with how things are going are progressives. To be fair to the Sanders’ loons, there are some serious issues with Wall Street, big banks, and a corrupt political class all of whom are taking advantage of the status quo. Certainly it’s understandable that college graduates with massive debts and worthless degrees or uneducated minimum wage earners without the education or skills to improve their lot are unhappy. What they fail to realize is that their situation is the result of progressive policies and not the greed of the super-rich. They don’t understand that the election of a Sanders, Clinton, or some other progressive won’t solve the problems we face because progressives like them caused those problems to begin with.
The GOP will have a very tough time winning a general election with Donald Trump, [score]Ted Cruz[/score], or a last minute establishment substitution. That’s just how things are with the media, minorities, and public sector unions all solidly behind the Democrats. For the sake of argument, however, let’s suppose the Democrats lose both the general election and fail to win back either the House or the Senate. What can, what should, the new Republican President do to change our political direction?
Many traditional voters look forward to the relatively easy things a GOP President can do if elected. Certainly rescinding all the Obama executive orders would be a great start. Likewise eliminating all the regulations enacted by Federal agencies under the current administration could be quickly accomplished. Then things become more difficult. Since we are still a Republic new executive orders alone can’t undo the last 50 years of progressive policies. Whether it’s building a wall or abolishing the IRS it will take acts of Congress. Congress will still retain Democrats and establishment Republicans who will either need to be convinced or overwhelmingly out voted. Even if they are, however, any changes enacted, like those of Ronald Reagan, will be only temporary respites if the progressive ideology isn’t challenged and defeated.
The nation didn’t get to be the way it is overnight. It has taken decades of progressive effort to undermine traditional American values. A few years ago Tim Groseclose wrote, Left Turn: How Liberal Media Bias Distorts the American Mind. His findings should be recognized by a GOP administration and used to combat the progressive indoctrination of our country via the media.
If the progressive’s continue to freely use the media to subvert the people of this country to their point of view traditional America is lost forever.
Another thing a next GOP administration must to do along with confronting media bias whenever it appears is to reform the public education system starting with colleges and universities and translating down to secondary and primary education. Laws can be passed requiring professors to present both sides of any political position in as an objective manner as possible in all courses, especially those covering history and current events. The current stifling of conservative opinions and speech on college campuses must be stopped. All side should have a chance to express their point of view. In a fair battle of ideas conservative values will defeat the progressive agenda.
Further text books and curriculum in primary and secondary public schools should be returned to objectivity. Currently you have science classes teaching manmade global warming as a fact without any dissenting opinion. The question of how ice ages came and went before humans existed is not even mentioned. Social study classes now teach a very slanted view of American and world history. And progressive agendas are promoted. Recently, for instance, a student in a Maryland public school received a failing mark because she didn’t feel comfortable repeating the Muslim vow of submission for a class assignment. Such curriculum has no place in public schools. Nor do required White Privilege classes or dozens of other progressive indoctrination courses. As important as it is to reduce taxes, encourage business, reform the courts, etc., ect., nothing the next GOP administration can accomplish will last until a concerted effort is made to restore the traditional American values that have been undermined by the left. The progressives have used political correctness, the media, and public education to bully those who disagree with them. This must be reversed or America will continue to decline.
