A Politician is Just a No-Talent Celebrity

David Lawrence
Written by David Lawrence

When I was in the Insurance Business on Wall Street my job was to try to sell people insurance.  Every time I made a sale I felt good about myself. I assumed I was doing a service for my clients but that was not the point.  The point was that I was adding to my income.

So, business was basically a greedy field and greed was a motivational factor.  I did what I did because the end of profit justified the means of social solicitation.

I didn’t really care if I sold my client the best program.  I just wanted to get him covered and collect my bread.

I was a small Donald Trump in a fish bowl.

While I have been a fairly successful businessman, I have never been a politician.  I find it too egocentric.  It involves giving away other people’s rights in order to gain and keep office. It involves making dogmatic assumptions about what is a fair share, as if I were more interested in the people than myself.

Politics is helping others in order to help oneself. It is attempting to be a rock star without the ability to sing or play the guitar. It is pretending that you are Picasso without paints.

A politician is a self-centered toady who hops around the lake of self-aggrandizement.

I have no desire to parcel out tax payers’ money in order to buy votes and approval.  I do not want to put food stamps on the heads of the poor so that I can mail them into a false sense of self-sufficiency.

I do not want to sit at endless meetings and bifurcate tiny decisions so that I am playing scrabble with borrowed words and ideas.

A president is not a scientist, an artist or an athlete. He has no talent. He is a used car salesman selling second hand ideas.  He is not a philosopher.  He is a graduate student studying other people’s ideas and reading speeches from a teleprompter.

I will obviously never run for office.  I have a criminal record.  Thank God.  That saves me from doing a menial job surrounded by flatterers and dolts.

It may surprise you that I think you have to be a dummy to be a President.  Well, have you ever looked at monolithic Obama or weasel Hillary?
