“Terrorists are using the migration crisis to enter Europe and plot atrocities across the continent” according to the annual risk analysis provided by Frontex Border Agency of the European Union (EU).

The Daily Telegraph writes:

“In a report which lays bare the concerns about the EU’s porous borders, Frontex conceded that it does not know the true number of migrants who have crossed into the continent and has no way of tracking them. Frontex said that EU member states had reported a record 1.82 million illegal border crossings last year, six times higher than the previous record set in 2014.”

The Frontex report estimates that the one million migrants who arrived in Europe this past year may be tied to, used by, or actually be terrorists. It states:

“The Paris attacks in November 2015 clearly demonstrated that irregular migratory flows could be used by terrorists to enter the EU. With no thorough check or penalties in place for those making such false declarations, there is a risk that some persons representing a security threat to the EU may be taking advantage of this situation.

“There is no EU system capable of tracing people’s movements following an illegal border-crossing. Therefore it is not possible to establish the precise number of persons who have illegally crossed two sections of the external borders of the EU. [It is] difficult for [EU] member states to ensure an efficient, high and uniform level of control at their external border. It was not possible to detect many migrants during their crossing…it is likely that an unknown proportion actually crossed and continued their journey without being detected.”

It’s important to note, however, that “They are not talking about 1.8 million people – they are talking about 1.8 million border detections,” a University of Birmingham expert told The Guardian. He said, “People may have crossed more than one border.”

The report adds, “As the vast majority of migrants arrive undocumented, screening activities are essential to properly verify their declaration of nationality.” Which is why UK advocates campaigning to leave the EU (known as Brexit) claim the report only evidences what the UK has already been experiencing– terrorists who enter the UK through porous European borders.

One EU spokesman said: “Prevented by free movement rules from carrying out extensive background checks on EU nationals, we are now in clear danger from European Islamists, who can seek to establish UK terror cells after slipping through the Schengen Area’s porous external border.”

The most vulnerable access point is the Eastern Mediterranean route. In 2015, Frontex reports that roughly “885,000 migrants arrived in the EU via the Eastern Mediterranean route – 17 times the number in in 2014, which was itself a record year.”
