Once again the media are running interference for Planned Parenthood. The latest example is “Dawn Laguens who appeared as a guest on Thursday’s CNN New Day to react to Donald Trump’s initial comments about proscribing [sic] legal punishment for women who have illegal abortions.”
As usual, “the pro-abortion activist acted as propagandist as she repeatedly asserted that pro-life Republicans seek to ‘punish’” women who kill their unborn children.
Of course, Laguens didn’t say “women who kill their unborn children.” But isn’t that what they are doing based on misinformation spewed out by Planned Parenthood and the entire Democrat Party and their sycophants in the media? Planned Parent is complicit in the punishment of unborn baby boys and girls every day because the organization promotes legalized abortion.
Donald Trump did not do a good job answering Chris Matthews’ abortion question, but it did bring to everyone’s attention what abortion is. If abortion is not killing an unborn child, then abortion should be legal. But if abortion is killing an unborn child, what happens to the mother and doctor?
I would have asked Matthews if he was OK with permitting a mother to kill her day-old child. If he said no, then I would have asked him if he was OK with a mother killing her unborn child that was just about to be born. If he had said no, then I would have asked him at one point did he believe that it was morally and legally justified for a doctor to kill am unborn baby. Where on the nine-month timeline does a “bunch of cells” become a baby?

I’m sure Matthews would have tried to divert attention back to his original question about punishment for a mother who seeks out a “doctor” to perform an illegal abortion.
There is a great deal of history on this question. “Abortion laws targeted those who performed abortion, not women. In fact, the states expressly treated women as the second ‘victim’ of abortion; state courts expressly called the woman a second ‘victim.’ Abortionists were the exclusive target of the law. . . There is no documented case since 1922 in which a woman was even charged in an abortion in the United States.” (Source)
What about a self-abortion? “As Villanova Law Professor Joseph Dellapenna, author of the encyclopedic book, Dispelling the Myths of Abortion History, has demonstrated, ‘in the entire history of Anglo-American law, it appears that the only woman to have been charged with a crime for self-abortion was Margaret Webb — in 1599.’” (Source)
The debate, however, still comes down to what is being aborted.
When someone says, “I’m personally opposed to abortion but I would not want to impose my opposition to abortion on women,” I always ask, “Why are you personally opposed? What is it about abortion that you oppose?”
If it’s because he or she believes that an unborn baby deserves the full protection of the law like a day-old baby is fully protected, then it seems to me that abortion should be outlawed, and the person who holds the “I’m personally opposed view” should do everything he can to stop legal abortion.
We never would accept the same answer if someone had said, “I’m personally opposed to slavery but I don’t think it’s morally justified for me to impose my view of slavery on other people.”
There was a time when black people were considered to be property. The issue of the personhood of slaves was decided by the Supreme Court in the 1856 Dred Scott Decision:
“In the Court’s mind, the choice to own slaves was an individual decision, a private matter for each citizen to struggle with apart from interference by the state. If a person, in an act of conscience, chose not to keep slaves, that was his own decision, but he could not force that choice on others. Every person had a private right to choose.
“Dred Scott, as a slave, was declared chattel — human property. He was a possession of his owner, and the owner had a right to do whatever he wanted with his assets. Three of the justices held that even a Negro who had descended from slaves had no rights as an American citizen and thus no standing in the court.” (Source)
Pro-abortionists argue in a similar way. Pro-abortion women contend that an unborn baby is their property because the “mass of cells” growing inside of them is a part of their body. But body parts don’t become full-term babies. Women don’t give birth to arms, legs, kidneys, or appendixes.
Abortion will never be fully outlawed in the United States until a majority of people understand that abortion kills unborn babies. Donald Trump missed an opportunity to help with the education process by walking them through the argument of why taking the life of an unborn baby is not a woman’s choice because an unborn baby is not part of a woman’s body.
I pray and work for the day that women everywhere will rise up with a single voice and call for the end of the barbarity. And what about those women who no longer have the legal right to kill their unborn children. We need in ensure that everything is done to make available viable and loving alternatives so that abortion will not even be considered as an option.
