I do not support Donald Trump for President, but this does not mean that he is in any way comparable to Adolf Hitler.
When you see that the ‘Hitler Card’ has been played, you know desperation has taken over.
I don’t like Trump for some of the same reasons I don’t like Hillary Clinton, “Bernie” [score]Bernard Sanders[/score], Barack Obama, and Mitt Romney. Their policies stink.
Does the GOP Establishment actually believe that forcing Mitt Romney on Republicans during the convention is going to lead to a win in November? Are they that deluded? Don’t they know that Republicans who are voting for Trump and [score]Ted Cruz[/score] despise the Establishment?
Apparently they don’t. They still don’t get it. The Trump voters will stay home. The same will most likely be true of Cruz voters who despise the GOP Establishment.
If Mitt Romney is the GOP Establishment pick, the Republicans will lose as big as Barry Goldwater lost to Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
Speaking of Barry Goldwater and another Romney, here’s something I did not know:
“Rush Limbaugh went on FOX News Sunday to discuss the contentious Republican primary and recent developments including Mitt Romney’s scurrilous attacks on Donald Trump this week.
Rush Limbaugh told Chris Wallace – while Mitt Romney was listening – that Mitt did the same thing to Trump as his father did to Barry Goldwater in 1964.
Chris Wallace: Let’s start with Mitt Romney’s speech this week in which he basically joined the Anybody-but-Trump movement. You say that that is going to backfire with Trump supporters and other voters are going to see it as the establishment trying to tell them what to do. With Mitt Romney listening explain what he’s missing.
Rush Limbaugh: Well, it’s all that and more but it’s not unprecedented. His dad did much the same thing against Barry Goldwater in a cabal with Republican establishment guys back in 1964. . . The establishment, not wanting outsiders, not wanting conservatives, it isn’t anything new. . . Donald Trump is putting together a coalition that the Republican Party says is exactly what it needs to win. And, yet look what they’re doing. They’re trying to get Trump out of the race because they’re not in charge of it.”
The following (and above) is from The Independent Sentinel:
“In 1964, liberal Republicans were vehemently opposed to Barry Goldwater’s nomination for the presidency and launched a campaign against him, labeling him a crazed extremist. One of those Republicans was George Romney, Mitt’s father.
“Donald Trump isn’t Ronald Reagan or Barry Goldwater, who paved the way for Reagan, but he is leading a movement at a similarly unsettled time in history.
Romney avoided endorsing Goldwater in 1964 to the dismay of conservatives. When one Goldwater supporter approached Romney to request his support, according to historian Rick Perlstein, he received ‘nothing but a bitter stare.’ . . .
“Romney’s opposition was so strong that LBJ used his comments in an ad against Goldwater. Romney said it would lead to the suicidal destruction of the Republican Party much as Mitt Romney said [the other day] that Trump’s nomination would destroy the Republican Party.”
Here’s the ad the Democrats ran against Barry Goldwater using the words of Establishment Republicans to attack him, including George Romney. Like father . . . like son:
It’s sad that all these Republicans who oppose Donald Trump weren’t at least equally forceful in their opposition to Obama and the Democrats.
