African-American Actor Jamie Foxx Blasts Racial Outcry Against the Oscars!

Award winning actor (and African-American) Jamie Foxx is making some waves this week in the wake of some controversial (and very funny) comments he made at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Awards.

Fox had been asked to introduce producer Will Packer for the Distinguished ABFF Alumni Award when he let loose with a few social justice zingers aimed squarely at the liberals who were whining about racial prejudice in Hollywood. Commenting on a certain segment of black Hollywood choosing to boycott the Oscar’s Fox commented, “All these Oscar talks, I don’t even trip about that. I mean, what’s the big deal? I was sitting at home with my Oscar, like ‘What’s all the hubbub?’” Fox then added that he “started calling Denzel [Washington], and we just Instagrammed our Oscars together.”

Foxx’s point, which he made humorously, was that both he and Denzel Washington were recent winners of “Best Actor” awards at the Oscars, and both men also happen to be African-American.

Instead of whining about perceived racism in one of America’s most liberal industries, Foxx argued that his fellow black thespians should simply do their jobs better, by telling them to “#ActBetter.” Foxx then finished his eloquent assault on the complaining segment of Hollywood by reminding them of the brilliant actors who came before them, who had real reason to complain but instead simply performed, men like Sidney Poitier who was the first black man to win the Oscar for “Best Actor.”

“In 1963, all he asked for was an opportunity to act,” Foxx reminded the attenders. “That’s all we have to do, opportunity. If you turn the camera on and say ‘OK, win an award, and action,’ we’ll all have taken, like, 10 steps back. It’s all about the art. Who cares about anything else?”

The commentary is likely not going to sit well with the #BlackLivesMatter crowd and the liberal social justice warriors who continue to agitate and complain. Foxx may not have thought that his comments and jokes would cause much of a stir, but they’ve made more than a few liberals upset.

It’s nice to see some common sense come out of Hollywood for once.
