Hero Dad Dies Saving Family from a House Fire – A Man to be Remembered

Written by eaglerising

This is the story of a man. A real man. The kind of man that the media and our culture has forgotten about. A true man, in every sense of the word. He wasn’t a media darling, or a pop-culture star. He wasn’t a famous athlete or a popular politician. He may not have been in touch with his ‘feminine side’, he may not have been given awards for bravery from liberals… but he was most definitely a man.

Demetrius Johnson was a man and a dad who woke up early one morning with the smell of smoke in his nostrils. Realizing that something terrible was happening, he leapt to action and carried two of his children (an 8-year old and 15-month old) down the stairs and out of the house. Johnson also made sure that his fiancé had safely made it out of the home before he realized that his 3-year old son was still trapped in the house.

His fiancé begged him to stay outside and let the firefighters rescue their son, because by this point the fire was truly raging. Demetrius’ brother relayed the story to the Buffalo News, saying, “My brother died a hero, that’s all there was to it. He was an angel…He died doing everything he could do to rescue his family.”

“Don’t go back in there, it’s too bad,” his fiancé had told him. “I’m not going to let my son die,” the hero dad had replied.

Johnson reentered the blazing house, found his 3-year old son and tried to carry him out, but by this point the fire and smoke had become unbearable. Johnson safely stowed his son in a nearby cupboard before he succumbed to smoke inhalation and collapsed nearby. A short time later firefighters were able to rescue the boy from the cupboard, but Demetrius Johnson had already passed away.

His 8-year old daughter suffered burns on 90% of her body and is in critical condition, but is alive thanks to her father’s heroism. Johnson’s son’s fared even better physically, as both are resting and in fair condition.

Please share the story of Demetrius Johnson with those you know. This is what it means to be a man, to be a father, to be a hero. Demetrius Johnson placed others, his loved ones, before himself and sacrificed himself so that they could live. He willingly gave of himself, and in the process, reminded us all of what a real man is. If you need to know how a man acts and lives – don’t look to Hollywood or the media, look to Demetrius Johnson.
