Rubio’s No Robot: He Know Exactly What He’s Doing

“Lets dispel this fiction that Barack Obama does not know what he’s doing. He knows exactly what he’s doing…” – Marco Rubio during the New Hampshire GOP Debate

Senator [score]Marco Rubio[/score] had a bit of a mental lapse during Saturday night’s GOP presidential debate in New Hampshire. During the course of the debate Rubio repeated a line about President Obama that has caused him some consternation but served as fodder for mockery across the cable TV universe.

More than a few times during the debate Rubio used this line of attack on President Obama, “Lets dispel this fiction that Barack Obama does not know what he’s doing. He knows exactly what he’s doing…”

This repeated talking point was used as a bludgeon against Rubio during the debate by Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ), who pounced on the rehearsed nature of the jab, but I don’t think that this treatment is fair.

People are making bizarre accusations against Marco Rubio following last night’s debate. I’ve even seen some accuse him of being an unintelligent, brainless lapdog. It’s just bizarre. There’s a far simpler explanation of what happened last night that accounts for all of the other debates, not just this one:

Rubio was trying to make a broader point when he pointed out that Obama knows what he’s doing. Unfortunately for Rubio, he forgot what the broader point was while he was making the argument to establish said broader point. We’ve all had that moment where we were put on the spot and we panicked. That’s what happened to Rubio last night. He was pressed by Christie, he panicked, and so he ended up repeating himself because he had to say SOMETHING, and he just didn’t know what to say.

Rubio’s broader point: Obama is not a bad President because he is inexperienced. Obama is a bad President because he believes ideologies, and he acts in a manner that follows from those ideologies. In short, Obama isn’t stupid, rather Obama is a cunning tyrant.

Rubio would have been well served by the presence of mind to bring the argument back to its basic elements: Obama’s presidency is a result of the objectives he pursues, not his inability to accomplish his objectives. Obama isn’t a failure; he is a stunning success. The problem is that Obama has succeeded in accomplishing disastrous objectives.

To go one step further, Obama could have all the experience in the world, and it would only serve to make him more successful in destroying what has made America the greatest country in the history of the world. If Obama had executive experience, we would likely be even worse off than we are right now.
