Call of Duty or Civic Duty?

It’s a rough day, America.

(But really, has a single day gone by recently that hasn’t been visited by the bad news bears?)

This time, I’m mourning another sad day for Lady Liberty herself. You might not have noticed with all the other madness going on in the world, but the Statue of Liberty could be seen shedding a single tear as she looked hopefully for a better day.

Alas, that day is not today.

Or tomorrow for that matter.

YouthVoteWith off-year elections mere hours away in New Jersey, Virginia, and a smattering of other states, most of America’s young and collegiate generation has their minds elsewhere – their thumbs. Not just their thumbs, but more importantly what their thumbs will be doing all day Tuesday. No, they’re not going to be voting for their next governor in Virginia, mayor in Minneapolis, or Congressman in California.

They’ll be killing “noobs” on XBOX Live while playing the newest edition of the Call of Duty franchise: Ghosts.

Through bleary eyes the masses will tune to their channels marked HDMI 3 instead of C-SPAN, CBS, or NBC, and take will kill their opponents hundreds of times in the first day of gameplay.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of players killed in the game on Election Day is more than the actual number of voters who turned out.
