Democrat says saying ‘All Lives Matter… Ignore’s American Racism’

Representatives Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) appeared together on CNN’s State of the Union this past Sunday to discuss the Black Lives Matter movement and the idea that All Lives Matter.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN): I think the conversation needs to be all lives matter. Whether it’s black lives or blue lives or infant lives.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN): When you say ‘all lives matter’ you are ignoring centuries of institutionalized American racism. You cannot ignore the fact that – in your own state, I mean, there was segregation, there was racism, there was slavery.

Blackburn: All Lives Matter.

Ellison: Of course they do. The Black Lives Matter movement is saying ‘black lives matter also – black lives matter, too.

I grow weary of hearing this tired bit or reasoning from liberal defenders of the Black Lives Matter movement. Racism exists in every nation across the planet, and in most of them it is far more serious of a problem than it is in America today.

Yes, we have a sad history of racial injustice. Yes, even now there are remnants of institutionalized racism that exist in various forms throughout American society. However, we as a nation have made great strides towards solving many of these problems, and we could continue to move in the right direction, but the Black Lives Matter movement (and other similar attacks from militant leftist wings) have actually served to retard our progress. Instead of working together to solve our problems, movements like Black Lives Matter serve to fracture our communities and to hinder our ability to move forward.

While racism persists here, consider this: today there are more mixed-race households in American than ever before, we have a mixed-race President, many of our legislators (in both parties) are ethnic minorities, and as a society we generally shun those who would openly defend racist ideology.

We have more work to do on racism, but respectfully, Mr. Ellison, your rhetoric and the rhetoric of the black lives matter movement only serve to denigrate the rights and lives of those who disagree with you. All Lives Matter, including black lives, white lives, blue lives, infant lives and so on.
