Russia has begun military operations in Syria and has even told the United States that we must get out of Syrian airspace or prepare to be shot down!
While some view Russia’s entrance into the fight against ISIS as a good thing, there are many reasons that we should be worried about this turn of events.
Philip Breedlove is the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO’s forces, and he had a word of warning for the world earlier this week when he said that Russia is not in Syria to fight ISIS.
We see some very sophisticated air defenses going into the airfields, and we see very sophisticated air \-to-air aircraft going into the airfields.
I have not seen ISIL flying any airplanes that require sa-15s or sa-22s. I have not seen ISIL flying any airplanes that require sophisticated air-to-air capabilities… These very sophisticated air defense capabilities are not about ISIL, they’re about something else.
Fox News pundit Charles Krauthammer knows what Russia is doing in Syria, and it’s nothing good.
It was the Secretary of State who said the build up of the Russians in Syria was doomed to fail. Two weeks later we have not only accepted it, we welcome it as a fight against ISIS, and we concede essentially that Assad will stay under the protection of the Russians. And the irony is the Russians aren’t in there to fight ISIS, the Russians are in there to support Assad, establish their predominance in the region, to bring in Iran, and to establish military facilities. They have no interest in fighting Assad. The Russians launched a half a dozen drones earlier this week over western Idlib, western Hama and Latakia. And not in one of those areas is a single ISIS fighter. This isn’t about the Russians taking on ISIS; this is about the Russians taking over Syria and keeping Assad as a client in place. That’s what happened as the administration sputters because it has no idea what to do.
Things with Russia sound like they are going to get worse before they get better… and it terrifies me to think that we have to rely on Obama to defend our interests.
