I don’t think any sane person would describe the Obamacare rollout as anything other than an epic failure. Still, administration officials have been trying to put on a brave face things by spinning what is actually happening with what they hope people might believe is happening. One example of just how bad things are going is the inability for even the most persistent of people to be able to access the Obamacare exchange. Yet, the Obama administration has worked hard to try to sell all of the website problems as a simple game of numbers. They say, “So many people are trying to sign up, that it’s crashing the system.” These stories are a fabrication, however, as a recent story from the Daily Mail Online recently revealed.
Just 51,000 people completed Obamacare applications during the first week the Healthcare.gov website was online, according to two sources inside the Department of Health and Human Services who gave Mail Online an exclusive look at the earliest enrollment numbers… The career civil servants, who process data inside the agency, confirmed independently that just 6,200 Americans applied for health insurance through the problem-plagued website on October 1, the day it first opened to the public… And the anemic totals suggest a far lower level of interest in coverage through the Affordable Care Act than the Obama administration has hoped to see… The open enrollment period for Obamacare coverage is slated to last for six months. If the first week’s total were an indication of how many Americans will sign up during that time through the Obama administration’s website, its final tally would reach a paltry 1.32 million.
Now the Obama administration must face the reality that if they don’t hit the necessary enrollment numbers, their program may collapse in just its first year. It will be interesting to watch how much money the administration and its deep-pocketed supporters will spend to drum up the necessary amount of enrollees. We may even begin seeing a completely new kind of healthcare fraud as Obama supporters begin purchasing healthcare for other people — living and dead — in an attempt to “massage” the numbers.
Could the fatal blow against Obamacare come from the Obama voters who decide to “opt-out” of Obamacare? That would be a delicious irony.
