Ted Cruz (R-TX) continues to prove time and again that he is one formidable politician. He single-handedly brought the Democrat Party and President Obama to their collective knees with his non-filibuster filibuster. The liberals will no doubt disagree with that last bit of commentary, but the fact of the matter is, for those 21+ hours, the nation was focused on Ted Cruz and his all-out assault on Obamacare. To make matters worse for the Democrats, this wasn’t your granddaddy’s “talking filibuster” — there were no encyclopedia readings, there was no mindless chatter in an effort to lengthen the filibuster. Senator Ted Cruz stood for more than 21 hours arguing logically and passionately against the Obamacare legislation (with a short side-bar to read his little girls a good night story). The most amazing part was that there were enough good arguments against Obamacare to last more than 21 hours!
Which should tell us all we need to know about this horrible law.
The filibuster is a good story that exhibits Cruz’s prowess at taking advantage of big moments… but an even better example happened just this past Friday at the Value Voters Summit. While Senator Cruz was attempting to give a speech at the conservative conference, several liberal audience members who had found their way in decided to heckle the Senator during his speech. It did not go well for them…
Speaking to one heckler Cruz said, “Thank you, sir, for being here. You know, look, it is a great thing that people can express their First Amendment rights. And I only wish the Obama administration respected First Amendment rights that much.”
In response to another heckler, Cruz delivered this line, “You know what? I’m curious. Is anybody left at the Organizing for America headquarters? I’m actually glad that the president’s whole political staff is here instead of actually doing mischief in the country.”
Another heckler drew this line, “You know what’s striking, actually? In the course of this brief speech, we’ve heard more questions than President Obama has allowed in the last year.”
Another heckler led Senator Cruz to make an offer to the President, “I would welcome the president, if he wants to get a hundred of his most rabid political operatives in a room, I’ll answer their questions on television as long as he likes. And in exchange, all that I would ask, Mr. President, is you take not a hundred, but ten of the men and women in this room, and spend 30 minutes answering their questions for the American people.”
The Values Voters Summit attendees loved every minute of Senator Cruz’s speech, and he continues to show that he is the cream of the conservative crop. And quite honestly, the hecklers only serve to offer Cruz as a contrast to the President. Cruz is affable, gregarious and quick-witted. He is Barack Obama… with substance.
Here we come America, Ted Cruz is for real.
